Any allegation or insinuation which attempts to undermine confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, must be supported by evidence and fair witnesses.

PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said Najib is only human and not a saint, and humans make mistakes, but the act of attacking and bombarding the Prime Minister with unfounded allegations is uncalled for.

“Our stand is based on the fundamentals of Islam. If the sodomy conviction of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for four witnesses, the same applies to any allegations against Najib which must be backed by fair witnesses.

“We must adhere to the core of Islam, good attitude must be supported, the bad ones must be challenged,” said Abdul Hadi when met after an event billed, ‘Madinah Ramadhan’ held here, last night.

Abdul Hadi was commenting on PAS spiritual leader, Datuk Dr Haron Din’s statement Sunday seen as defending the Prime Minister, following an expose by the Wall Street Journal alleging a whopping US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of national-linked funds ended up in his personal accounts.

Dr Haron in Najib’s defence viewed the allegations as 'illogical' and had urged an immediate probe to be conducted.

On Friday, a now extensively-publicised WSJ article cited investigation documents from Malaysian authorities which purportedly suggested billions of ringgit was pumped directly to Najib’s personal account in 2013.

Najib, in a statement on the same day, denied the report while stating that he had never taken funds from 1MDB for his personal interest.

A special task force has been set up to probe the alleged mismanagement of funds in 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The task force is made up of the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
