A former security guard was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today on two counts of supporting and promoting terrorist activities.

However, no plea was recorded from Zilah Tajuddin, 43, after the charges were read out to her before Magistrate Suhaima Mohd Noor.

Zilah was charged with giving support to the Daish militant group by downloading and promoting its activities through the Telegram application.

Both the offences were allegedly committed at 79602, Jalan Cenderawasih, Kampung Dato' Ahmad Said Tambahan 2 here between July 4 to 18, 2016.

On the first count, she was charged under Section 130J (1) of the Penal Code, which provides a life imprisonment, or for up to 30 years, or fine, and forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in connection with the commission of the offence, if found guilty.

The second charge was made under Section 130 G of the same law which provided an imprisonment for up to 30 years, upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab, while Zilah was unrepresented.

The court set Sept 20 for mention to obtain permission to transfer the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Meanwhile, in the Tapah Magistrate's Court, a self-employed man was also charged with giving support to the Daish militant group.

No plea was recorded from Zairosfitri Jainuddin Azhar, 24, when the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Ahmad Asyraf Mohamed Kamal.

He was alleged to have committed the offence between March 25 and June 30 this year at Block A of the Public Housing 2 in Chenderiang.

Deputy public prosecutor Fatin Farahiyah Nadzri prosecuted, while Zairosfitri was unrepresented.

The court set Sept 20 for mention.
