Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has assured customers and clients that its website was not hacked.

The carrier explained that a temporary glitch did not affect their bookings and that user data remained secured.

In a statement, the airline explained what happened was that its Domain Name System (DNS) had been compromised where users were redirected to a hacker website when the www.malaysiaairlines.com URL was keyed in.

"At this stage, Malaysia Airlines' web servers are intact," MAS said.

The statement said the airline had resolved the issue with its service provider and the system was expected to be fully recovered.

The matter, it said, was immediately reported to the CyberSecurity Malaysia and Transport Ministry.
