A weak earthquake, measuring 3.3 on the Richter Scale, struck Sandakan early today, but there were no reports of property damage in that district or the Beluran district where the people could have felt tremors.

The Meteorological Department said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur that the quake struck at 12.26 am and the epicentre was 25km southwest of Beluran and 267km southwest of Tarakan, Indonesia.

It said that people in the Sandakan and Beluran areas could have felt tremors.

Sandakan Civil Defence Force officer Lt Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel said no one had called to complain about damage to property.

He said Civil Defence Force personnel conducted patrols and inspections in the district to detect any damage.
