A weak earthquake, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, occurred about 11km west of Ranau, at 5.54pm today.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department's website, the epicentre was at 6 degrees north and 116.6 degrees east, and tremors were reportedly felt in Ranau district.

However, the quake did not pose any tsunami threat.

A weak earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale also occurred in Kalimantan at about 1pm today.

The department said the quake's epicentre was at 3.7 degrees north and 117.8 degrees east, about 75km southwest of Tawau, Sabah.
