The government encourages all walks of life to contribute to needy veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and their families through the 2020 Warrior’s Fund Campaign.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said among the objectives of the campaign was to boost the awareness of society on the sacrifices of MAF personnel and fostering patriotism among the young.

He said the campaign would collect funds for veterans or their families, zakat recipients and veterans who were grouped among the handicapped (OKU).

‘’Our country will not be successful as is evident today without their sacrifices and the people must be reminded that their good deeds must not be forgotten. Maybe, many among the young are not aware or don’t know about their struggles.

‘’Our military personnel sacrificed their lives or were maimed in the struggle to defend the country. The youth of today must realise that what we have achieved today is among results of the struggles of the MAF veterans,’’ he said in the Malaysia Hari Ini programme on TV3, today.

Ismail Sabri said this in conjunction with the launching of the 2020 Warrior’s Fund Campaign by the wife of the Prime Minister, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, as the patron of the campaign, which would take place until the end of December.

Since the country is still under Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which limits the implementation of the fund collection activities, Ismail Sabri said the campaign was being implemented through the electronic and social media to help spread the word on the fund collection.

‘’We want to involve all strata of society in the campaign in terms of collection such as students of institutions of higher learning and corporate companies, the latter, through their corporate social responsibility (CSR), to give contributions,’’ he added.
