A graduate of a vocational college was fined RM70,000, in default six months' jail, by the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here today, for operating a dental service without a licence.

Judge Norma Ismail meted out the fine on Nur Farahanis Ezatty Adli, 20, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

The woman, from Alor Setar, Kedah, was charged with operating a dental clinic at Bakti Homestay, Jalan Bukit Katil, at 10.15 pm last Jan 25.

She was charged under Section 4(1) of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998, which provides a fine of not more than RM300,000, or imprisonment for up to six years, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Health Ministry, Nurul Khairiyah Samsudin, prosecuted, while Nur Farahanis Ezatty was represented by lawyer Janariah Mustafa.
