Veteran actor Datuk Abdul Aziz Singah, 75, who died of cancer was laid to rest at the Kampong Bongek Acheh Muslim Cemetery near here, today.

His body arrived here at 11am after funeral prayers were carried out at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Mosque, Serdang, Selangor at 8am.

His remains were buried beside the grave of his mother.

About 250 people comprising family members, relatives and artistes were present at the burial ground.

Among the artistes present were actor S. Sahlan, veteran artiste Sharifah Aminah Syed Abdullah, Amran Aman Ramli or Amran Tompel and Datuk Amin Khan.

Also present was the Undang Luak Rembau Datuk Lela Maharaja Datuk Muhamad Sharip Othman.

Abdul Aziz who had starred in several dramas and films such as PJ Holding, Sate, Maria Mariana and Impian, died at his house in Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, Selangor last night.

Abdul Aziz, who was popular in the 1980's era was once the president of Persatuan Seniman Malaysia.

Meanwhile, several artistes who were present for the burial described Abdul Aziz as a good friend, loving and sensitive and that his passing was a big loss to the local film industry.

S. Sahlan, 74, when met by Bernama said he had known the late actor since the 1960's and was his oldest friend.

"The last time I met with him was last month. He was a hard-working man and steadfast in facing any challenge... but I am sad that he did not talk about his illness until I was told that he was suffering from stage four cancer," he said.

Deputy president of the Malaysian Veteran Artistes Welfare Association (PKAVM) Rahim Jailani described his passing as a major loss to the local acting industry.

"I had known him in the 1980's in RTM (Radio Televisyen Malaysia). He was very approachable and friendly and frequently gave advice to other artistes. He was aslo active in giving advice to this association, I feel very sad at his passing," he said.

Meanwhile, Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) deputy president Zulkifli Mohamad or Zack Kool described the late actor as someone who was very dedicated to his career.

He is survived by his wife Zunita Mohamed and six sons.
