A series of exciting programmes have been lined up for March 23-30 in conjunction with the coronation of Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor.

State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the programmes are a decorated boat parade, firework shows, sports carnival and tea parties in the city as well as some districts which were also expected to attract more tourist to Johor.

"The decorated boat parade will be held at 8.30pm at Danga Bay here every night from March 23 until March 30. More than 20 government and private agencies will take part in the boat parade," he told reporters after visiting the Chap Goh Mei celebration project site at Danga Bay, Tuesday.

Tee said the firework shows will start at 8.30pm during the same period, also at Danga Bay and later on April 4, in conjunction with a uniformed forces tatoo show in Kluang.

He said a sports carnival will be held from March 26 until March 29 at Danga Bay, involving sports such as beach volleyball, beach netball as well as beach football.

Another event planned to be held is the Coronation Tour, a 400-kilometre cycling championship.

Tee said the tea party for Johor Baharu district will be held at the Gelang Patah football field on March 28.

He said members of the public were invited to attend all the events.

"We hope small and medium entrepreneurs can take this opportunity to market their products or souvenirs related to the coronation as mementos for the public and tourists.

"Those interested in using the official logo of the coronation on their products can get the official logo from the Coronation Secretariat Room, Sultan Ibrahim Building, Bukit Timbalan or from the Johor Tourism Department office," he said.

On the Chap Goh Mei celebration, Tee said it will start at 8.30pm in Danga Bay this Thursday with fireworks and music shows by renowned artists such as Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, and there will also be distribution of mandarin oranges to visitors.
