People here have been urged to take full advantage of the internet access facilities provided by the government to develop business potential, thereby increasing revenue.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said they would be left behind if they did not engage in the digital economy as current business methods had significantly changed compared to before.

He said the involvement of people in the digital economy would open up more opportunities not only inbusiness butalso because future career opportunities were in the digital world.

"If we do not get involved (in the digital economy), we will be left behind and regret later...this'borderlessworld' will not wait for us, it's a firstcome firstserve basis, those who come first will reap the resultsfast," he said.

Salleh said this when officiating the Kota Belud Fit Challenge and Creative Betitik Festivalorganisedby the 1Malaysia Community,NeighbourhoodWatch Club and Abai district polling base in Kampung Pangkalan Abai, here today.

The event wasorganisedto foster unity among the people, including the youths around the village through sports and the arts.

Salleh also encouraged the people in Kampung Pangkalan Abai toorganisemoreprogrammesor activities that improve economic resources and businesses via digital methods.

This includes searching for the best way on how businesses online can bepopularisedin the area to boost the people's income, he said.
