The UMNO Welfare Bureau today pledged to assist Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate, Farah Marcella who obtained excellent results despite living in poverty.

Its chairman, Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said, the Bureau will offer financial assistance for the student to pursue her studies at any higher learning institution.

“We would like to congratulate Farah Marcella for her excellence. Although she has lived in destitute, her willpower is admirable and should be emulated by other youths.

“We feel sorry for her and family. And we feel obliged to offer our assistance to her. There will be representatives from the Bureau to meet her and family soon,” said Shamsul, when contacted by Astro AWANI here today.

Farah Marcella, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Kota Puteri Pasir Gudang, Johor obtained 6As in the recent SPM.

A Facebook post on her teacher’s Facebook revealed how Farah and her siblings were abandoned by her father.

Living as a homeless, Farah kept missing from school. At Form Four, she was expelled but her determination led her to return to school.

According to Shamsul, the Bureau will be offering assistance for Farah’s siblings aged 10, 12 and 16 who have not been able to go to school due to poverty.

On Monday, an education fund was set up for Farah.

The fund is an initiative by her teacher, Puan Suraya Abdul Rahim and her brother, Zaikhan.
