Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said UMNO and BN could not stop the party's MPs from deciding to support PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who intends to seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

This is because, he said, UMNO and BN are not component parties of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

"As known by all, UMNO and BN are not PN component parties.

"Support for the PN government is support from Members of Parliament only.

"UMNO and BN cannot stop the MPs who decided to support Anwar," he said in a statement here today.

Ahmad Zahid said many UMNO and BN MPs have voiced their support.

However, Ahmad Zahid did not explain in detail the form of support.

"I was informed that many UMNO and BN MPs have expressed support. I respect the stand of the MPs," he said.

Earlier, Anwar in an emergency press conference here today claimed that he has a strong majority to form a new government in the near future.

He stressed that at this time the government led by Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has fallen.
