Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in collaboration with Celcom Axiata Berhad today donated essential items to 200 families affected by the recent floods in Tumpat and Pasir Mas.

UMK vice-chancellor Datuk Mortaza Mohamed said the aid was part of the two entities' social responsibilities to ease the burden of the flood victims.

"This contribution is a follow-up assistance to flood victims, because we believe the Federal government through its various agencies has already helped out with adequate aid during the floods, and will do so from time to time," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after the UMK and Celcom Axiata Berhad Flood Relief Mission at SK Simpangan here, today.

Also present were Celcom Axiata Berhad Government Relations, USP and Vendor Development director Saiful Bahrin Abdul Ghaffar, Acting Tumpat UMNO division chief Datuk Mohd Rosdi Ab Aziz and Pengkalan Kubor assemblyman Mat Razi Mat Ali.

Meanwhile, Mohd Rosdi said various parties had come forward to provide assistance to the affected residents in Tumpat.

"We are very grateful that there were many silver linings behind the disaster, including the visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who came down to the ground to see for himself the impact of floods in Kelantan, besides approving several plans to address the yearly flood woes," he said.

He said post-flood donations were still required as the residents there had lost their source of income after crops and livestock were affected. - BERNAMA
