Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar on Thursday announced his resignation as Media Prima Berhad (MPB) chairman, effective August 31.
As Chairman of the Consultation and Prevention Panel (CCPP), one of the independent external oversight panels monitoring the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), he had been vocal in voicing the Panel’s position on various issues.
In the statement he released announcing his decision to leave MPB, Johan said he was not under pressure to leave.
He also said he would remain as CCPP Chairman and will continue to speak on its behalf justly and without fear and favour.
Below are two statements he released about the MACC, on August 8 and August 6, 2015:
(i) AUGUST 8 STATEMENT:
CONSULTATION AND CORRUPTION PREVENTION PANEL: REINSTATE THE TWO MACC SENIOR OFFICERS IMMEDIATELY
The Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (CCPP), one of the independent external oversight panels monitoring the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is appalled by the move to transfer two senior MACC officers on Friday.
The panel demands that the two officers, Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin, MACC Special Operations Director and Datuk Rohaizad Yaakob, MACC Strategic Communications Director, be reinstated immediately and to allow them to carry on with their duties.
Its Chairman Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar believes that the transfers will certainly raise eyebrows. There will be more questions than answers and it will create more suspicions and conspiracy theories.
The panel supports the call by the Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin to stop any form of 'intimidation tactics' and actions towards the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and its officers.
The panel also commends Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), who offered himself to be transferred instead of the duo for they were only acting on his orders.
However, the Panel is of the view that his offer to stand in place of the two officers, whilst honourable, is entirely unnecessary.
(ii) AUGUST 6 STATEMENT
CONSULTATION AND PREVENTION PANEL MEDIA STATEMENT
The Consultation and Prevention Panel, one of the independent external oversight panels monitoring the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) expresses concerns and dismay regarding the current spate of actions taken against MACC officials over the current probe.
Its Chairman, Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar reiterates the need for MACC to be allowed to execute its duties unhindered and fulfill its legal obligations ad required by MACC Act 2009 in an independent, transparent and professional manner.
The current atmosphere of distrust and cynicism by the public could only be dispelled by allowing MACC to perform its duties without fear and favour.
The public perception that the investigators are now being investigated must be addressed at all cost.
The panel is in the opinion that all parties entrusted to conduct the investigation must work hand in hand to find the truth.
