Using an improvised explosive device, two youths blew up two automated teller machines (ATM) at a bank in Taman Midah this morning.

Their hopes of scooping the money from the two ATM were dashed as the alarm was triggered by the explosion, sending them scurrying empty-handed from the scene.

In the 4.19am incident, half the glass wall of the room in which the ATM machines were installed was shattered.

In a statement, Cheras police chief, ACP Chong Kok Sin said a security guard spotted the youths knocking on the ATM machines before fleeing after the alarm went off.
