Turkey's Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Merve Safa Kavakci today thanked Malaysia for its support in the country's fight against Fetullahist Terror Organisation (FETO) that was responsible for a coup attempt in 2016.

In a video message posted on the Turkish Embassy's Facebook page in conjunction with the fourth anniversary of the failed coup, Kavakci said the solidarity and support provided by Malaysia "is beyond any appreciation."

"Cognisant of this fact and condemning the July 15 treacherous coup attempt, Malaysia handed over the persons associated with FETO to the justice of our country, in 2016, 2017 and finally, in 2019"

"On this occasion, we express our gratitude to the Malaysian authorities, Non-Governmental Organisations in the country, members of the press and the Malaysian people, who were with us on the night of July 15 and after," she said.

The Ambassador also declared that Turkey's cooperation with Malaysia in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations will continue, and assured that Turkey will never host any element that might pose a threat to Malaysia, in its territory.

Touching on the event which killed 251 Turkish citizens and injured another 2,192, Kavakci expressed her greatest gratitude to the "martyrs and ghazis."

"If they had not fought to death that night, today our country would have been dragged into chaos in the hands of FETO-ist traitor tyrants," she said.

On the night of July 15, 2016, members of the FETO tried to overthrow the democratically-elected government and assassinate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
