Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today revealed that Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia has resigned as Dewan Rakyat Speaker, The Malaysian Insider reported.

The matter was revealed by the veteran politician at a programme titled, "Bicara Negara" held in Ipoh, Perak on Saturday.

“He (Pandikar Amin) came to see me. He also told me that he can’t go on anymore, his job now will be taken over by his deputy,” said Dr Mahathir.

The second term for Dewan Rakyat sitting begins Monday.

The reason of Pandikar's resignation however remains unknown, said Dr Mahathir.

He announced the matter, after being prodded by the Press members who attended the event on an alleged coup to topple the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak via a non-confidence vote at the Parliament.

Dr Mahathir also said that the matter was a delicate one as UMNO doesn’t have enough seats to gain Barisan Nasional parliament support.
