The transfer of the Bukit Aman Special Branch Deputy Director I, DCP Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador to the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) was made for the purpose of service and had nothing to do with politics.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said Abdul Hamid's transfer was because the department needed his expertise to handle the security division.

"In the situation where Malaysia's security is being threatened by the social media and there are also external threats, I feel experts are needed to handle the security division.

"The movement (of the location of duty) among civil servants is made for the purpose of service... not due to politics. If it (transfer) happens, it is for the purpose of service," he told a Press conference after the commissioning and gathering of the national level Civil Defence Undergraduate Corps (Kos Sispa) at the Universiti Sains Malaysia, here today.

He said this when commenting on a Malaysiakini report which claimed that Abdul Hamid received his transfer letter to the JPM yesterday.

The portal reported that Abdul Hamid, who has served the Royal Malaysian Police for 37 years, did not know the reason for his transfer.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had reportedly confirmed the transfer, but declined further comments.

Meanwhile, Shahidan said he would take action against the irresponsible group who linked him to the 20 Barisan Nasional (BN) parliamentarians cooperating with the opposition in the plot to topple the government.

Describing the matter as a very serious lie, the UMNO Supreme Council member said he had no reason to topple the government as he was holding a comfortable post.

Last Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi disclosed that there was a plot to topple the government by attracting 37 BN MPs to join 87 Opposition members and an independent member.

"I am very clean now... furthermore DPM Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi clearly said the 20 people (who had been accused) were clean, not involved (in toppling the government)," Shahidan said.

In another development, Shahidan said he planned to widen the membership of the Department of Civil Defence (JPAM) to the private sector in efforts to achieve the target of two million members by the year 2020.

He said the private sector which had many employees had the capability to set up many platoons which could benefit the local population especially in tackling natural disasters.

"Besides setting up the JPAM in their respective offices, they will also be taken as foster fathers to the states, more specifically in the local areas," he said.
