A teenager charged with 17 counts of traffic offences was sent to jail for 640 days when he failed to pay fine totalling RM6,400 imposed by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday.
Car park attendant S. M. Jagathiswaran, 18, pleaded guilty to all 17 charges, involving 10 traffic summons for various offences, including riding a motorcycle without a valid licence, with no insurance protection, no registration number plate and side mirror.
The offences were committed between January 2012 and December 2013.
Magistrate Nur Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor imposed fine of between RM250 and RM550 for each traffic summon.
In mitigation, Jagathiswaran, who was unrepresented, said he had a father and a younger sibling, who is still studying, to support.
Two other traffic offenders were also sent to jail today for failing to pay the fine imposed by court.
Unemployed, M. Balakumar, 34, who pleaded guilty to three traffic charges, will be in jail for 95 days for failing to pay fine of RM950.
Book binder S. Siva Sangarah, 19, who failed to pay fine of RM700 on two charges, will be jailed for 70 days.
The three men were among 29 individuals, who include school students and taxi drivers, charged in court today for various traffic offences.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Hashimah Hashim.
Meanwhile in KOTA BAHARU, a single mother, with an arrest warrant on her head for three traffic summons issued between April 2013 and July 9 last year, was fined a total of RM900.
The offences included for failing to produce her driving licence during a check at Jalan Post Office Lama on April 29, 2013 and for driving a car with a faulty brake light.
Magistrate Nik Habri Muhammad fined Dayang Antik Bujang Ramlee, 42, RM300 for each summon, in default 10 days' jail.
She paid the fine.
