Batu MP Tian Chua was arrested in Permatang Pauh while he was campaigning for PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, late Saturday.

Tian Chua, in a series of tweets wrote that he is being brought to Dang Wangi district police headquarters by the police to assist into the investigations of the May 1 rally opposing to the newly-implemented Goods and Services Tax held in Kuala Lumpur, Friday.

Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman, Elizabeth Wong has also confirmed Tian Chua's arrest in a Facebook post.





Meanwhile, Wan Azizah's daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar also tweeted about the arrest.


The Permatang Pauh by-election will take place on May 7 where the poll will see a four-corner fight between Suhaimi Sabuding, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM)'s Azman Shah Othman and independent Salleh Isahak.

The by-election was called after incumbent Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was disqualified as a member of parliament over his sodomy conviction. Anwar is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for sodomising his former personal aide.
