Three accidents involving public transportation were recorded during a week before and a week after the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, said acting Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.

He said the accidents which involved express buses occurred in Pendang, Kedah on June 22; Genting Highlands, Pahang (June 25) and Bukit Tagar, Selangor (June 29).

"Most of these accidents were due to human factor. Nevertheless, the accident rate could have been reduced if all (drivers) followed the rules.

"As such, SPAD will continue its monitoring so that the government's wish to reduce the accident rate can be materialised," he told reporters when met at an Aidilfitri Open House here today.

Also present were Johol Undang (chieftain) Datuk Mohammad Abdullah, state executive council members, as well as 7,000 people.

In the incident at Bukit Tagar, a driver and passenger were killed when the express bus they were travelling in, crashed into the road divider at KM422.5 of the (southbound) North-South Expressway.
