Three armed robbers were shot dead by police in Johor Bharu at about 6pm, Thursday.

Two of the robbers died at the scene in Jalan Permas Utara while another died on his way to the hospital, Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmudin Mohd said.

He said police had received information from the public about a Toyota Camry being driven in the area. Eight policemen in two cars had then followed the suspects for four kilometres, from Jalan permas 1 to Permas Utara.

The car sped off after seeing the police car and the police gave chase, Wan Ahmad said, adding that the robbers then had opened fire.

He said all the robbers were locals, aged between 22 to 25 years-old.

The bodies were sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru.
