The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin has called on all quarters to assist the Terengganu Malay Customs and Islamic Religious Council (Maidam) to develop wakaf land with potentials in the state.

He said so far there were 704 lots of wakaf land with various purposes in the state including wakaf land for construction of mosques; surau; burial grounds, wakaf land for orphanages and religious education in Terengganu.

Some of the wakaf land had potentials for development but this could not be implemented as Maidam was short of funds for this purpose, the Sultan said.

"I hope there are quarters such as subsidiary companies of the state government, private sector or financial institutions that can work together with Maidam to develop the wakaf land with potentials and are prepared to cooperate by contributing funds for the development of the wakaf land.

"This is to improve the economy and living condition of the people in the state, especially the poor group," he said when opening a regional conference on wakaf 2016, here today.

Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
