Taxi drivers and e-hailing can now breathe a sigh of relief as the government has allowed them to operate with no time limit, just like any other public transport.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they were also allowed to pick up passengers according to their vehicle capacity.

"Previously, taxis and e-hailing were only allowed to pick up two passengers and operate until 10 pm.

"We allow them to operate with no time limit and take passengers according to the capacity of the vehicle," he said at a press conference here on Thursday.

Ismail Sabri said passengers had to download the MySejahtera application to facilitate the Ministry of Health (MOH) to conduct contact tracking.

In addition, he said all passengers and drivers were required to wear face masks throughout their trip.

"We also encourage passengers to make payments by cashless payment method," he said.

Ismail Sabri said the Special Ministerial Meeting also agreed to allow private vehicles to carry passengers who were not of the same family and according to their vehicle capacity.

"In the past, private cars, based on the seating capacity of four, six or seven, we still maintained the policy, but if it was only from single-family families, we now allow them to carry passengers from different families or households," he explained.
