The local community has been urged not to panic over the spread of a video showing a food outlet near the Tampin Square being 'robbed' by two men armed with machetes as it was merely a demonstration by the police.

Tampin police chief Supt Hamazah Ab Razak said the 'demonstration' by the police was held in conjunction with the Tampin police headquarters walkabout programme on May 9.

The video recording has gone viral on Facebook since Thursday and has also been shared on the Whatsapp application.

In a statement here Friday, Hamazah said the staged robbery was to increase public awareness on crime and the need to immediately report to the police to enable swift action.

For the record, the video recording which was uploaded on the Facebook page BOM321 has had more than 70,000 views and 615 shares. - Bernama
