A Indonesian tailor was today charged at the the Slim River Magistrates Court for three counts of promoting Daish membership, supporting its ideology and possessing material related to the terrorist group.

However, no plea was recorded from, Rino Kaswara Kasmar, 34, when the charges was read in front of Majistrate Nurul Farena Zainal Abidin.

Rino Kaswara was charged with knowingly encouraging membership in the Telegram group 'AnsharulKhilaafah of Filibin-Indonesia' created by him at Medan Niaga, Jalan Pasar, Pekan Slim River on May 2.

He was charged under Section 130J (1)(a) of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years, or a fine, and is liable to forfeiture of assets involved in the commission of the act, if found guilty.

For the second offence, he was charged with encouraging membership among the Mujahideen Indonesia Timur (MIT) members and Islamic State (IS) members through the Telegram group ‘Rijal Mujahideen Minangkabau’ in the same location between May 2 to Jun 12.

For that, he was charged under Section 130G (b) of the Penal Code which provides for life imprisonment or a jail term of 30 years, or a fine.

For the third offence, he was charged for having in possession, a mobile phone containing IS-related images at a Bazar Majlis Daerah Tanjung Malim (MDTM), Jalan Pasar, Pekan Slim River on June 12.

For that, he was charged under Section 130JB (1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum seven years' jail term, or a fine and possible forfeiture of the items, upon conviction.

The accused was unpresented and the Deputy Public Prosecutor Syalia Ain Zainuddin prosecuted.
