Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V will be proclaimed as the 5th Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) this Saturday.

Its vice-chancellor, Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said said the proclamation ceremony would be held at the university's 86th convocation at its main campus, here.

"All of us at UiTM wish to congratulate His Majesty as the chancellor of UiTM," he said in a statement, here, today.

Sultan Muhammad V replaces Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, the Sultan of Kedah, who ended his term as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 12, last year.

Hassan said the King would then grace the first session of the convocation ceremony which would see 500 graduates receiving their PhD and master's degree scrolls.

He said the first session would also see former chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia, Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar appointed as the new pro-chancellor of UiTM.

A total of 28,618 graduates will receive their scrolls this time with 91 for their PhD, master's degree (1,302), post-graduate diploma (62), bachelor's degree (13,812), professional degree (59) and diploma (13,292).

Besides the main campus, the convocation will also be held at the UiTM campuses in Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, Johor, Melaka, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak. -- Bernama
