The Health Ministry views seriously the issue of five doctors who allegedly abused their profession to deceive the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for the renewal of the public service vehicle (PSV) licences of several individuals in February, said its deputy minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya,

He said stern action would be taken against them if they were found guilty by the court.

"We can take firm action against those who violate the rules. If there is a case like this, we will take decisive action. Thus far, they have yet to be found guilty. We will decide (on action) then," he told reporters after a 'Ziarah Kasih Ramadan 2017' programme which contributions worth RM300,000 presented to 1,500 recipients here today.

Yesterday, five doctors and two men who acted as 'runners' were charged in the Sessions Court in George Town, Butterworth and Ipoh, for attempting to deceive the RTD by manipulating some individuals' medical examination to renew the PSV licence, last February.

Dr Hilmi said any doctor registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) has to follow the rules that have been established and action could be taken under the Medical Act 1971 if they were found guilty of abusing their position.
