A special committee has been established to ensure adequate and uninterrupted supply of food as the country faces the COVID-19 outbreak, including during the two-week enforcement of the Movement Control Order.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the committee comprised the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industry and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

"This special committee is chaired by the MITI minister to ensure adequate and uninterrupted supply of food," he said at a press conference here Tuesday.

He added that the committee will also discuss all issues related to the supply chain, especially fish and vegetables and how to ensure that the delivery process runs smoothly until it reaches the consumers.

"The committee will discuss not only the demand but all related issues from the start of the food supply chain involving agriculture including fish, vegetable supply and so on.

"We want to see if there are any problems encountered, perhaps related to transportation that is not in service for certain reasons.

"So, this committee will ensure that food supplies are able to be transported and packing can be done," he added.
