The situation in the flood-affected areas in Melaka continued to improve, with more evacuees returning to their homes overnight.

As at 8 am today, the number of evacuees dropped to 60 from 66 last night.

State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali said, however, the people had been reminded to be on the alert as Melaka had been experiencing moderately heavy rain since last night.

"The evacuees allowed to return to their homes were those at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tehel, Jasin, where there are now 43 people," he said, adding that the number of evacuees remained unchanged at the Seri Mendapat community hall in Jasin (seven) and Kampung Seri Jeram community hall in Alor Gajah (10).

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said a weather report he received indicated that it had been raining in several areas in the state since last night and advised the people to be on the alert for more floods.

"Heed the advice of the authorities to evacuate if floods hit your areas. Keep a close watch on your children to prevent any untoward incidents," he said in a post on his Facebook account.
