Shila Amzah, 24, the singer who is making her mark in China and national cyclist, Fatehah Mustafa, 25, were among the four honorees for the Puteri UMNO Female Icon Award at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

The award was presented soon after Puteri UMNO chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati concluded her speech in front of thousands of Puteri UMNO members at the ongoing UMNO General Assembly.

The two other recipients of the award are international debate champion Maizura Mokhsein, 23, and Managing Director of FashionValet.net, Vivy Sofinas Yusof, 27.

The award was presented to women leaders to honour their contribution in areas such as academic, business, arts and sports.

Shila, whose real name is Nurshahila Mohd Hamzah was selected for excelling in the field of music and making herself known in foreign countries, especially China after winning the 2012 Asian Wave contest in Shanghai.

"I am overwhelmed with the award presented by Puteri UMNO which recognises talented young people, especially women in this country. Thank you for supporting me and I hope Puteri UMNO will continue to serve the community," said Shila in a recorded message.

The award was accepted by her father, Amir Hamzah or ND Lala on her behalf as she was unable to attend.

Cyclist Fatihah meanwhile was considered as a heroine in the sporting arena for contributing a silver medal at the 17th Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea.

Maizura, who has built an impressive portfolio as a public speaker and debater, reached the number one ranking in Asia after winning the United Asian Debating Championship at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Vivy is a determined businesswoman with her online business venture since the age of 23. The fashion and lifestyle businesses has a good track record.
