Police arrested seven suspects, believed to be involved in the incident where a youth was hacked to death in Kampung Pengkalan Nyireh, here on Wednesday.

Besut district police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said five suspects were arrested on the night of the incident while two others were detained yesterday and police believed the suspects were known to the victim.

"As of now, police are still hunting for at least eight more suspects and they are expected to be arrested soon," he told reporters after attending Jabi assemblyman Mohd Iskandar Jaafar's open house, here today.

In the June 21, incident the victim Nik Mohamad Shahrulanuar Nek Der, 22, died at the scene, believed to have been attacked by 15 suspects, following a misunderstanding.

In an unrelated 12.19am incident on June 24, in Kampung Lak Lok, Jertih, four people were injured in a brawl between rival gangs and although there has been no arrest yet, police have managed to gather detailed information on the identity of the suspects.

Meanwhile, in the case of an Uber driver attacked by three suspects at a Petronas Station on June 23, at 3.15am, Mohd Zamri said police were still hunting for the suspects and the victim's stolen car, a Kia Forte.
