Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has cancelled the controversial Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project today.

In a statement, Mohamed Azmin said the project was cancelled as the project concessionaire had failed to meet the conditions set by the state government.

Mohamed Azmin said the state had informed KIDEX to adhere to the conditions before Feb 14, 2015.

“As none of the conditions were met by KIDEX, the Selangor state government has decided to cancel KIDEX,” he said in a press statement.

Mohamed Azmin said the same approach will be applied to future highways proposed in the state.

Among others, the state government had requested the concessionaire to provide an independent traffic impact assessment, social impact assessment and an environmental impact assessment to explain the benefits of the highway to the residents there.

It had also requested the company to provide an estimation of the rate of return to the investment based on the toll rates throughout the concession.
