The agreement for the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor signed with Putrajaya will end by itself, said Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin said the federal government should not have demanded a 26,000km of pipes because that matter is not stipulated in the main agreement.

“The failure to implement the main agreement was due to Putrajaya’s latest stance in refusing to the respect the principles of the main agreement signed on September 12, 2014.

“A conflict from the main agreement executed by the federal government will see the state government losing its sovereignty over its land and water assets owned by the state government,” said Azmin at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

Ali said, according to the agreement, the state government agreed to hand over the assets to the upgraded concession company.

"In fact it makes sense for us to agree, but within a month or two, the federal government came back to us and want to take the land," he said.

"Does the federal government wants to seize the sovereignty of the state?" Ali asked.

However, the PKR deputy president, who is also Member of Parliament for Gombak said the Selangor government will continue to monitor and ensure water supplies in the state will be provided to all users on a continuous basis.
