The government is undertaking a restructure of the Special Unit for Socio Economic Development of the Indian Community (SEDIC), the implementation entity for the Malaysian Indian Blueprint, said the Prime Minister's Office.

A statement issued by the office today said the process involved a change in the scope of work and an increase in the size of the manpower, incorporating 58 full-time positions.

"The roles and functions of existing units, namely the Special Implementation Task Force (SITF), Secretariat of Empowerment of Indian Entrepreneurs (SEED) and Action Plan for the Future of Tamil Schools in Malaysia (PTST), will be absorbed into the new implementation entity," it added.

On April 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak launched the Malaysian Indian Blueprint that had been drawn up to assist the community, especially the B40 group (households in the bottom 40 per cent income category).

The statement said the implementation agency would be led by a director-general, who would be assisted by a deputy director-general.
