Johor police want schools in the state to list down the names of students who are problematic and suspected of being involved in gangs.

Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said this is to curb school gangsterism although the students usually carried out such activities outside of schools.

He said the police believe that school teachers know more about their students.

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin also urged the teachers not to hide the matter as it is a criminal act.

He also said that the police will provide counseling and launch investigations if a third party is involved in the matter.

"Don't ever try to hide the real facts. Maybe the student did not do it in the school but did it outside school compound. But the school knows the student is a gangster. Give us the name and let us handle," he said at a press conference, here, today.

He said two different cases involving school gangsters in Johor have been solved after the arrest of 12 suspects.

The first is the case of a 16-year-old who was beaten by a group of men for refusing to join a gang on July 16.

The second was a case of a 13-year-old who was beaten on July 17 by a suspect and his friend for alerting the school of the boys playing truant.
