Misconduct among pupils in schools has declined from 0.08 percent in 2013 to 0.06 percent in 2015, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said.

Nevertheless, the ministry would continue to strive to curb bullying cases in schools.

"The Education Ministry's statistics show that in 2012, school bullying amounted to 4,159 cases; 4,120 cases in 2013; 2,825 cases in 2014 and 2,968 cases in 2015," said Mahdzir in his reply to Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad (BN-Mersing) at the Dewan Rakyat today.

Abdul Latiff had also asked about the ministry's strategy in curbing physical aggression among pupils.

Mahdzir said efforts undertaken to curb bullying in schools include having the schools' disciplinary committee to maintain the students' good behaviour, more parent-teacher meetings in schools and distribution of manuals on school bullying in schools.

"Besides that, schools must also have scheduled meetings with the police, record students' personal data and conduct intervention programmes involving their (school bullies) peers," he added.
