Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the depositors of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) needed not be worried about their savings in the institution as these were guaranteed by the government.

He stressed that the depositors should not be influenced by the instigation of any quarters who suggested that they withdraw their savings from TH.

Najib said withdrawing their savings from TH should therefore not arise.

"We take note of the decisions made and the (UMNO) Supreme Council has given its views on the matter," said Najib, who is also UMNO president, at a news conference after chairing the party's Supreme Council meeting, here, today.

Also present were UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, and leaders of the party wings.

TH had reportedly purchased a piece of land belonging to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) at the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) financial centre, resulting in more controversy.

TH then decided to sell back the land and so far, there are three interested bidders.

On 1MDB, Najib said the UMNO Supreme Council asked that the investigation by the Auditor-General on the investment company be expedited and the report be tabled for public knowledge.

"I hope the Auditor-General will make a statement on when the report can be tabled to the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC)," he said.

Najib said the UMNO Supreme Council also hoped that stern action be taken against anyone who contravened the law based on the investigation report.

He said the Supreme Council also supported the efforts taken to resolve the 1MDB issue.

"A number of the Supreme Council members have offered their knowledge and experience in helping to resolve the 1MDB issue.

"On the advice of the Supreme Council, the government will consider whatever stern measures that can be taken and it will make the decision in due course," he said.
