Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, 72, passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Heart Centre today.

He was reported to have breathed his last at about 1:20 pm this afternoon.

Deputy chief minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg when met by reporters today in Kuching announced a seven-day mourning period during which the state flag will be flown half-mast.

He also declared tomorrow as state holiday.

Abang Johari told reporters that Adenan will be buried at the Samariang Cemetery in Kuching.

Meanwhile, prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on his Twitter account said that he will be going to Sarawak to pay his last respect.


Expressing his condolences, Najib also said the country has lost a credible leader.


Several politicians and personalities also expressed their condolences to Adenan's family over the demise of the beloved statesman.
