Former Attorney-General (AG) Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail along with former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed will jointly lead the Special Task Force on the investigation into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

It is widely understood that both Abdul Gani and Abu Kassim were dismissed from their duties by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2016 because of their involvement over the 1MDB investigations.

Joining them in the Task Force are the current MACC Commissioner, Datuk Sri Mohd Shukri Abdull and the former Special Branch (SB) Deputy Director of the police, Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.

The former SB deputy director was allegedly transferred over the 1MDB investigations. It was earlier reported that the current Bukit Aman Special Branch Director Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff's contract is expected to expire in September this year.

It is unclear if Datuk Hamid will be replacing him for the role.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office early Monday, this Special Task Force will be assisted by relevant parties within the Police, MACC, Bank Negara Malaysia, and individuals who are close to the 1MDB matter.
