Teachers in Sabah should take advantage of technology to teach more effectively.

State Education director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul said methods of teaching and learning in schools should correspond with the changing times.

"I worry if there are still some of us (teachers) who have not changed, reluctant to take full advantage of ICT facilities.

"The government has spent a lot of money to provide information and communication technology (ICT) initiatives in education," she said during a programme to distribute data plans and Altitude smartphones to teachers through the second phase of the 1BestariNet Service Programme here, today.

The speech was delivered by Sabah Education Department information management and ICT sector chief Ruvia Sylvester.

Maimunah said the Sabah Education Department was trying to be a catalyst of change for the betterment of the students.

She also expressed appreciation to 1BestariNet service provider YTL Communications Sdn Bhd for their professional and financial support to develop the use of ICT in schools, especially in Sabah.

At the event, data plans and smartphones were distributed to the district education offices of Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Tuaran, Penampang and Kota Belud.
