The state government is appreciative and satisfied with the performance and contribution by the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) in Sabah, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

He said although Rela only served to assist the major enforcement agencies in the state, the commitment showed by the organisation proved that they had always been committed in carrying out tasks entrusted to them.

"I want to express (my) sense of pride on the cooperation, commitment and contribution of Rela to the state government and the people in Sabah in various programmes and agendas by the government and the community.

"I am confident that their cooperation, commitment and contribution can be further enhanced in times to come," said Musa in his speech at the 45th national-level Rela anniversary celebration at Kota Kinabalu Padang Merdeka here today.

Also present was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Home Minister.

Musa said with the large number of Rela personnel in the state, he believed that the organisation could play a very crucial role and responsibility in carrying out various social programmes.

"Rela can also help to steer people's commitment towards development; helping the government to further strengthen the spirit of unity and goodwill; and deploying its members more effectively and comprehensively to monitor every single development at the grassroots level," he said.

Hence, Musa said the Sabah government would continue to support and help Rela to ensure the prosperity of the state and the well-being of its people.

Commenting on the celebration, he expressed his appreciation and thanks to Ahmad Zahid for choosing Sabah as the host for this year.

"This is a great honour for us in Sabah to celebrate the historical event together. As such, the state government and the people in Sabah would like to wish Happy 45th Anniversary to all Rela members," added Musa. -- Bernama
