The Terengganu state government has denied rumours that toll collection on the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 will commence on May 1.

Terengganu Infrastructure and Public Utilities Committee chairman, Rosli Othman said the federal government was at the final stage of discussing the matter with the North-South Highway (PLUS) concessionaire before signing the agreement for management of the 184-kilometre highway.

"Just wait for the official statement from the Works Ministry regarding this matter...people should not be influenced by rumours spread through the social media because it is untrue," he told reporters here Tuesday.

Asked on public concerns over several weaknesses that were found to still exist at the LPT2, Rosli, who is also Kemasik assemblyman, said the matter would be resolved once the highway was managed by PLUS.

"Users do not have to worry, we can see that highways managed by PLUS have a high standard of quality... that is what they will do once the LPT2 management agreement is signed later.

"Damaged roads, animal encroachments and various other security aspects will be given priority by PLUS, there will be a checklist for things that need to be repaired.

"Of course, other facilities will also meet the high standards set by PLUS including the rest and service areas as well as petrol stations for the convenience of the user," he said.
