The Road Transport Department (RTD) will be instructed to review the enforcement of private vehicle load limits to ensure that the number of victims in accidents are controlled.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said currently the limit on the number of passengers in private vehicles had not been enforced.

"The time has come for the RTD to re-look at this in order to ensure the safety of passengers," he told reporters after breaking fast with the media here Monday night when commenting on an accident which killed eight people in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan on Sunday.

He said the ministry had also instructed the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) to carry out an investigation into the cause of the accident.

In the incident at about 2.20pm Sunday, eight people were killed in a four-vehicle accident at KM25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong, Jempol.
