The remand of two Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel, being held to facilitate investigation in the assault and death of their colleagues at a detention room of the Sg Wangi Unit in Sitiawan last week, has been extended for another seven days beginning tomorrow.

The order to extend the remand against the two suspects, aged 24 and 31, was issued by Magistrate Ainul Bashiirah Dona Don Biyajid today following the expiry of the current order.

The suspects were being remand for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides the death sentence upon conviction.

Last Sept 29, seamen Nik Muhammad Baihaqy Nik Mat, 28, and Muhammad Lailatuliman Mohd Sukri, 26, died while in the detention unit, believed to have been assaulted based on post-mortem reports from Permaisuri Bainun Hospital Pathology Department here.

The post-mortem on Nik Muhammad Baihaqy revealed death due to bleeding of the lungs caused by blunt trauma while Muhammad Lailatuliman died due to lung bleeding and blunt trauma on the soft tissues.

The two suspects were also in remand for investigation under Section 325/506 of the Penal Code in connection with an assault on two other seamen at the detention unit.

Last Oct 2, two Class 1 seamen. both aged 30, lodged a police report claiming that there were injured at the same detention unit and were currently receiving treatment at the Armed Forces Hospital in Lumut.

Following the incident, the remand on two suspects, aged 29 and 37, who had been in remand for four days, was extended for another three days since yesterday for investigation into the case, made under Section 325/506 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.

Yesterday, the same court ordered the remand on three other suspects, aged 29, 37 and 44 , who were detained for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code, to be extended for another seven days beginning today.
