A People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) personnel died after the shotgun he was carrying on his motorcycle accidentally fired and fatally hit his neck at Kampung Kolam, Tok Uban, Pasir Mas early today.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said in the incident around 2.45 am, Mohd Roddin Hashim, 45, died on the spot.

"Initial investigations revealed the shotgun owned by RELA which the personnel had kept in the basket of his motorcycle exploded by itself. His wife was riding pillion.

"The victim was said to be heading to a jungle near his home to hunt," he told reporters when met after giving a security briefing to state executive councillors at Kompleks Kota Darul Naim here today.

Hasanuddin said the investigation also found that the victim possessed a valid firearm licence; the case has been classified as sudden death.

He said the personnel's remains had been sent to Lati Hospital, Pasir Mas for post mortem.

Meanwhile, he also advised firearm owners to take note of the aspect of safety and standard operating procedure when carrying the weapon.
