Datuk Seri Azalina Othman said the motion to refer Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar to the Rights and Privileges Committee is a government motion.

She stressed that it was not a personal motion by her as the Pengerang MP, adding that the motion was debated and decided by Dewan Rakyat on Dec 3, last year.

“It would be better if she could use this opportunity to explain herself rather than over politicizing the issue,” she said in a statement today.

“Be that as it may, I am bounded by the Standing Order 85 therefore I am not in the position to comment any matter that is still under consideration of the committee,” she said.

Azalina said Nurul Izzah is also bounded by the Standing Order as she has been called to testify before committee.

“Therefore, I hope she is aware of her obligations and duties when she is called by the Rights and Privileges Committee,” Azalina said.

Nurul Izzah is to be referred to the committee over her meeting with Jacel Kiram, the daughter of the former head of the Sulu terrorist group that invaded Sabah in 2013.

Jacel had uploaded four photographs of her meeting with Nurul Izzah on Nov 9 on her Facebook account.
