KUALA LUMPUR:PKR deputy president, Mohamed Azmin Ali has been cautioned not to distort his ‘Barua UMNO’ or UMNO lackey remark as only directed towards Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM) president, Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah said the lackey phrase used was directed at all police force which gave the impression to the Selangor Menteri Besar as irresponsible.

"As the Menteri Besar, Azmin has insulted the entire police department, all the units within it when he calls Khalid a lackey.

“All policemen will feel the heat -- Azmin’s insult against their boss -- so there is no reason why the former should say it was meant only for Khalid,” he said when contacted by Astro AWANI.

Abdul Rani commented on Azmin’s political secretary, Shuhaimi Shafiei, statement denying the ‘barua’ phrase was for directed all all policemen, but only for Khalid.

The word was used during a speech made by Azmin at Kubang Ulu, Permatang Pauh on Monday.

Earlier, Senior Police Officers' Association (Gazetted Officers Branch), Senior Police Officers Association (Inspectors' branch) and the Police Junior Officers' Association urged Azmin to issue a public apology.

Abdul Rani also stressed Azmin should have given a more logical reason other than to say the word was intended only to Khalid.

"Children will surely feel deeply hurt if some call their father stupid so, same goes to the situation with Khalid who is the police force’s top-ranked man.

“If one calls Khalid ‘barua’, then everyone else will feel offended,” he said.

He also urged the public not to insult the police institution as they play an important role in the daily lives of the people.

"The task of the police is serve the people regardless of people - Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Rakyat - any party having problems will be helped, he said.

Previously, Cheras UMNO chief, Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee described Azmin as rude for calling the police as UMNO and BN's lackey.

He said, PKR is desperate to the extent they make insane accusations against the police force and Khalid.
