Seventeen people, aged between three and 60, were bitten by dogs in the state since July 26 until Wednesday.

According to Perlis Health Department director Dr Zaini Hussin, all the victims were given immediate treatment and had confirmed to be free of rabies infection.

Speaking to reporters at his office here yesterday, he said most of the victims were bitten by wild dogs while some cases involved pet dogs.

He said the Veterinary Department had examined those dogs and some were found to have rabies.

"All the victims are being monitored continuously and had received rabies vaccinations," he added.
