Putrajaya has set up a technical committee to look into matters relating to the position of Sabah and Sarawak within Malaysia.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri said, the committee was set up following a high-level meeting she co-chaired with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman on June 13.

"The committee will comprise representatives of the Federal Government, the Sabah and Sarawak state governments, and historians from the two states.

"It will also identify the issues of non-compliance from the context of the Inter-Governmental Committee Report, Malaysia Agreement 1963, Malaysia Act, Federal Constitution and other written reports or documents such as the Cobbold Commission Report.

"They will also come up with recommendations and solutions for the Federal Government's consideration," said Nancy in a statement today.

She expressed hope that the technical committee's first report based on recommendations and solutions would be ready to be presented to the Cabinet by the end of this year.

The meeting also involved the Attorney-General, as well as representatives from the Federal, Sabah and Sarawak governments.
